ZINC: ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND

Zinc is a natural element and can be found almost everywhere. On house fronts or roofs it develops its natural patina by degrees, thus adding additional natural protection against climatic conditions.

Zinc sheet is non-toxic. It does not contain any “impurities“ that might be released into the environment under any weathering conditions or in case of fire. Construction elements made of zinc sheet do not require any coating or “chemical maintenance“.

The ecological compatibility of any materials used is especially important in the areas of construction and renovation.

Zinc is a vital trace element for plants, human beings and animals. The deficiency of zinc may cause retarded growth as numerous worldwide studies have shown. But consuming a sufficient amount of zinc has obviously positive effects. The definitive level of zinc consumption has yet to be determined. This is why you can even use rain water that has drained off zinc roof surfaces to water your garden.

Zinc products are environmentally sound and have a lot of positive potential for recycling: old construction components, such as gutters or roof elements, can be separated in an ecologically proper manner and then be re-introduced into the cycle of usage without any loss of quality.

It can easily be seen that a lot of today’s zinc products were probably once part of other zinc-made construction elements. This is both economical and environmentally sound – not only today but also in future.

Of course, all major companies in the zinc sheet sector are certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001.

CURRENT INFORMATION
ZINKNEWS 05/2007
Zinc plays a crucial role in modern architecture. Regardless of whether it is used for esthetic reasons, or for corrosion protection or simply as an environmentally sound construction material – zinc is becoming increasingly important in our modern world. In addition, its natural patina provides a kind of self-healing protection that lasts a lifetime. Zinc – Pure Life is an information service provided by INITIATIVE ZINK, the German zinc association.
