ZINC ENHANCES GROWTH

Zinc, one of the major trace elements found in the human body, is involved in almost all vital metabolic functions and growth processes. For example, there is clear evidence that zinc enhances skin regeneration and wound healing. The intake of zinc contributes to a healthy development during pregnancy, infancy and puberty. It may be interesting to note that human sperm and breast milk have the highest concentations of zinc.
A balanced diet ensures that sufficient quantities of zinc are regularly ingested. Altogether, about 2.5 g of zinc are continuously present in the human body. An adult person needs about 10 to 15 mg of zinc per day. On the other hand, the human body is incapable of storing any surplus of zinc. Quite naturally, zinc is continuously excreted through perspiration and digestion.

There is a lack of zinc in many regions of the world. This is a major problem for plants, animals, and human beings. Why? If plants do not receive enough zinc, their growth gets stunted. If human beings do not get enough zinc from meat, milk and wholemeal products, some of their metabolic functions may be impaired or slowed down.
