ZINC IS VERSATILE

Zinc is everywhere – it’s not only one of the most frequent metals in the earth’s crust, in fact, zinc is all around us. We come across it early in the morning: water-taps, razors and jeans buttons are manufactured by means of zinc diecasting. The same applies to parts of your juice squeezer, food processor, plugs and wall sockets. Creams and powders contain zinc oxides, a substance that protects your skin. Antifungal ointments, sticking plasters and wound dressings rely on the positive qualities of zinc. And last, but not least, zip fasteners, bra hangers, and door locks are all zinc-coated to protect them from corrosion and rust.
While you’re having breakfast, you’re consuming the zinc contained in your eggs, milk products, musli, meat, fish, and, of course, fruit.
And it doesn’t stop there – ten kilos of zinc provide for your safety while you’re driving in your car, giving excellent protection against rust, and providing functionality and excellent visual effects in the form of switches, levers, and screens. By the way, even most brand emblems and hood ornaments are manufactured by means of zinc diecasting.

Zinc can be found almost anywhere – in households and offices, computer casings, zinc-coated paper clips, door hinges, window handles, hot-dip galvanized roof and front elements as well as gutters, eaves and down pipes.
Finally, zinc helps us in our leisure time. It’s a protective ingredient in suntan lotions, it’s used in batteries, it’s part of galvanized equipment in playgrounds. No matter where you look, zinc is an integral part of our lives.
Last but not least, the energy required to produce and recycle zinc has been reduced by the use of innovative measures. As a result, the so-called Efficiency Rate, i.e. the proportion of the zinc available for recycling relative to the total quantity of zinc, is relatively high.

CURRENT INFORMATION
ZINKNEWS 05/2007
Zinc is one of the most important elements in our lives, having a positive impact on growth and wound healing. Zinc protects our bodies from environmental influences. This is why our body needs to be supplied with a certain amount of zinc every day. Zinc is all around us. Zinc gained from the diecasting process can be found in control elements and components used in automotive engineering. It is also used in hot-dip galvanized railings as well as in eaves and house fronts. Zinc – Pure Life is an information service provided by INITIATIVE ZINK, the German zinc association.
