ZINC KEEPS MOBILE
Zink protects steel from rust. According to an EU directive for scrap cars, all vehicles produced after January 2005 must be recyclable by 85 per cent. From 2015 onwards, this percentage is to be increased to 95. So it doesn’t really come as a surprise that car manufacturers use galvanized steel for building car bodies.
Depending on the way it is used, zinc can be recycled up to 80 per cent.
As a component of refined surfaces, zinc is an eye-catcher.
In cars, zinc is used in elements and units manufactured by zinc diecasting, such as pretensioners, casings for starters and windscreen wiper motors, holders for headlights and exterior mirrors. In addition, it is not only used as part of steering columns and front sensors for airbags but also for manufacturing door lock cylinders and door handles. More than 100 zinc-made components stand for mobility, security, and functionality.

Zinc-made casings protect you from electromagnetic radiation, have great consistency, and absorb mechanical vibrations.
Zinc can be recycled any number of times, with little energy and, above all, without loss of quality. Recycled zinc does not produce the effect of downcycling. For example, to extract zinc from zinc scrap the required energy does not even amount to five per cent of its initial production. Due to the high material value of zinc scrap, very high rates of recycling can nowadays be achieved– which is precisely what efficient recycling management is all about.
CURRENT INFORMATION
ZINKNEWS 05/2007
Zinc is a special element employed in automotive engineering. Safety-belt components, hood ornaments, door handles, toggle switches or levers, hot-dip galvanized chassis as well as visual and design components in car interiors often consist of zinc gained from the diecasting process.
